First, I have an addition to last month’s schedule of upcoming events. The HLARA will hold their Summer Sizzler on Saturday, July 15th, 8 AM at the Broken Arrow Church of Christ, 505 E. Kenosha, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. This is the same location as previous years. This is always a good meet, lasting into the early afternoon, and it is nearby. It is worth attending. They have an equipment contest and there is an auction of donated items at the end, in addition to the swap meet. It is always well attended.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to advise of the unexpected passing of two of our club members. First, Merritt (Flip) Livingston passed away on January 31st. He was quite knowledgeable on Zeniths and had a nice collection at one time. He always attended all of our swap meets, and was one of the founding members of the club. Then on February 9th, John H. Bryant passed away. He was well known to Zenith collectors for his research and Zenith publications. He was also a noted radio DX’er. I was always proud that such a prominent radio authority and author was in our area, and a member of our club. Both will be greatly missed.

This month’s meeting topic is Magnavox. I plan to bring my 1920’s Magnavox amplifiers for display and discussion. So anything made by Magnavox is welcome, especially to cover later time periods. I do not plan to bring any horns, their main product of the 1920’s, as I will have plenty to bring without adding horns. So maybe others have horns to display. The meeting will be on Saturday March 13th at the Hometown Buffet on NW Expressway, beginning at 7 PM with dinner preceding, generally about 6 PM. We will be finalizing plans for out big April meet, and will especially need help with publicity. Don’t forget to bring something for the donation auction.

Our big annual meet will be on Saturday, April 10th at the Midwest City Community Center, beginning at 8 AM. We will have a contest, swap meet, silent auction, and live auction. I will publish a list of contest categories in next month’s Broadcast News. They will generally be about the same as last year’s, unless you have a category that you would like to see. If so, please let me know so that it can be included. If we want to feature a special category this year, we need to decide on it. We will continue the People’s Choice category that we have had the last few years. So now is the time to complete your restoration projects to have them ready for next month. Also, gather your junk, parts, and excess items for the swap meet. Talk it up with your friends, or anyone you run into with an interest in our hobby. The more collectors we have in attendance, the better the meet will be!

The location for the VRPS spring auction has been moved. It will be at Betcha Bingo, 2420 W. Irving Blvd #125, Irving, TX. It is on Saturday March 20th, with the doors opening at 5 AM, for the 9:30 AM auction start. I suspect this will be closer and easier to get to that the old Grapevine location. It is an auction only, but is worth attending. It’s not as large as the auctions during the fall convention, but there are always some good items, but not quite as many as in the fall. There tends to be more parts available and sets for parts or restoration. So it’s a good source for getting what might be needed to complete your restoration, or picking up something to restore. I recommend that you attend if possible, as it is a chance to see a lot of equipment, and observe sales prices.
